1. Welcome

The WAFC has renewed its partnership with Rookie Me (the AFL’s official Coaching Technology Partner) for the provision of an app to assist with the measurement and monitoring of game time.

The 2023 solution named RM Play has been rebranded as Rookie Me Play.


2. Benefits

Rookie Me Play is designed to manage and monitor player time. Customisable alerts assist users to implement fair game time.

The app boasts several other features designed to assist volunteers on game day.

The WAFC have arranged for an ADVANCED subscription ($99.90) for all teams. To check out features available to users please see the Feature Matrix

In 2024, clubs and teams will also receive access to a web-based solution called Rookie Me Hub (see below).

  • Access for your teams and their volunteers can be provided from Rookie Me Hub or Rookie Me Play.

  • Access to the App will be provided to your teams via a JOIN TEAM CODE.

  • Access for your club to Rookie Me Hub will be provided via an email from the WAFC.


3. Partnership

The partnership between the WA Football Commission (WAFC) and Rookie Me (including its previous iteration, Interchanger) is now embarking on its seventh year.

In 2024, Rookie Me will assume the following roles with Western Australian football:

  • Official Game Day Technology Partner of Junior Footy in WA.

  • Official Partner of WA Football.

  • Official Partner of the West Australian Football Commission.

  • Presenting Partner of Junior Football Best & Fairest Awards.

  • Major Partner of WA Junior Footy Finals.

  • Major Partner of WAFL Little League.


4. Equipment [compatible devices]

Rookie Me Play is available for iPad and iPhone.

  • iPad users will have more features available than those using an iPhone.

  • Your Apple device will need to be able to access iOS15 and above.

  • App performance is reduced on older iPads and iPhones.

  • Compatible iPhones, Compatible iPads

Rookie Me Hub is available on all web browsers on all devices.


5. App Store [downloading Rookie Me Play]

What you need to know to get started:

  • Users should ensure their Apple device is upgraded to the latest iOS version to get the best performance.

  • Ensure your iPad is running on iOS 15 or later (the App will not work for devices on older iOS). Note for users: iOS 15 is the fifteenth major release of the iOS mobile operating system developed by Apple for its iPhone and iPad lines of products.

  • 2023 users may still have an app called RM Play on their device. Please delete RM Play before continuing.

  • Click this link to see Rookie Me Play on the App Store or follow the steps below

  • Open the App Store on your iPad or iPhone.

  • Search for Rookie Me Play.

  • Download - Rookie Me Play from the App Store.

  • Your logins from 2023 (RM Play) will work for Rookie Me Play.

  • If you don’t already have an account, create one with your email address.

  • It is recommended that a club administration email address has access to ALL TEAMS to ensure ease of account transition in the case of a change of team staff (see Club Access below).

  • After team users log in to the app they will be presented with a screen that asks them to either Create a Team OR Join a Team.

  • Please encourage your teams to use the Join a Team function to gain access to the team(s) that we have set up.

  • If a user creates their own team using the Create a Team function that team and the data from any games will not be seen by the WAFC and not be valid from a policy compliance perspective. Only teams accessed with the Join Team codes will be valid.

6. Club Access - Rookie Me Hub

Access to your teams will be provided via Rookie Me’s web-based platform - Rookie Me Hub. You will receive an email from the WAFC that will grant you access to your organisation.

Once you gain access to Rookie Me Hub all of your teams for 2024 will be activated and available for you.

As the club administrator you will be able to invite other staff members to each team as you see fit. (via an email from Rookie Me Hub or by using the JOIN TEAM codes - see below).

For example, you may want a member to see teams (a) and (b) but not team ©. Members can be provided with Admin access or View Only access.

Club administrators can manage their teams and view individual team game data via a web interface - Rookie Me Hub.

Rookie Me Hub will house each game's data and also provide users with cumulative data for the season.

Individual team staff will be able see data for their team. Club administrators will be able to view data for all of their teams.

Users will see new metrics that will assist clubs and the WAFC in monitoring compliance. Please see the explainers for a FAIR GAME TIME SCORE and INTEGRITY SCORE.


7. Team Access

IMPORTANT! Please do not create a new team, as your club/league will provide you with a unique code to join your team.

Each club will be provided with JOIN TEAM CODES for their various teams (available in-App or via Rookie Me Hub).

8. Cloud-based synchronising

Team data and progress will be synchronised across all devices, giving you the ability for you and your team members to use different devices to access teams via the App.


9. Offline mode

You will need to be connected to the Internet to:

  • log on.

  • Create a player and event.

  • Start and end a game.

For the best App experience it is recommended that users are connected to the Internet. Data usage will be minimal.

For the best App experience ensure your device is fully charged.


10. Support and Help Desk

Should users encounter any issues or wish to provide feedback, we kindly request them to log their concerns through the App. Doing so enables our team to swiftly identify and resolve any device-specific issues. A feedback section is available within the app.

For additional assistance, our Rookie Me Help Desk provides extensive self-service options within the App. Here, users can access step-by-step guides and find answers to frequently asked questions to enhance their overall experience.

11. New Features

The most significant new feature for 2024 is the introduction of a game role delegation feature. It has been designed to revolutionise the allocation of game day roles, by breaking down the responsibilities to create a smoother, organised and more successful game day experience.

Delegations - delegate data collection to two other users for any game (e.g. timekeeper, interchange steward, statistician, note-taker, goal umpire).

13. New Users

First-time users should be encouraged to create practice events and play a dummy game(s). They should also delete these practice events after completion to ensure data integrity on Rookie Me Hub.


14. Historical teams

Data for teams from 2023 is available on Rookie Me Hub.


15. New teams

New teams will be created for 2024. Users can use the export (from 2023 teams) and import (for teams rolling over into 2024) functions on Rookie Me Hub.
